Tick Bite Research
I decided to share something related to a research rabbit hole I jumped down this week. We took our family camping about an hour from our house. After a day of exploring the woods, we found a tick on each of our children. We were able to remove them quickly, and figured out that the longest they could have been attached was 5 hours. We saved the ticks for identification (which was hard--they are tiny! About the size of a poppy seed). Since ticks are a known carrier of Lyme Disease, an illness that is sometimes untreatable and can cause chronic pain and fatigue, I went into fact finding mode about how concerned we should be about transmission. This graphic is an overview of what I found, and how it relates to our situation. Thanks and data credit goes to the Department of Entomology, University of Wisconsin-Madison: https://wisconsin-ticks.russell.wisc.edu/
I also wanted to see if I could represent all the information in only black and white (no gray). It's fun to play in those kinds of constraints--actually a bit therapeutic for a worried mom :)
